It is going to be expensive

I have spent the last 3 weeks going to town.
First we did a spur of the moment thing to Flagstaff for fun.
Actually for dinner and a trip to Camping World.
Yes, truly 180 miles to go to Chili's.

The next week we wanted to go to Prescott for church.
We attend Calvary Chapel of Prescott and love it and the people.
It is a challenge to go to church. Hubs has to have either Sunday
or Wednesday off, as well as most of the next day so we can drive home
Prescott is 120 miles away so we usually get a hotel room and spend the night.
We used to gripe about driving 20 miles to church... we are so beyond that. lol

This week we had to go for an appointment at the transmission shop.
We found that we do have transmission problems as well as our engine is missing
for some reason. Ugh.... We actually left town after church last night and drove home.
We finally got here at 11pm and fell into bed exhausted.

I did drop my quilt at the long arm quilters so I should have it back in a couple of weeks.
I also bought new material for 2 more quilts. Oh, Yeah!

Since the transmission guys could not get to us yesterday we have an appointment to
take it back next Wednesday. And pick it up next Friday.
2 more trips to town and another to pick up my quilt in about 2 weeks.

I think that is about 2000 miles to Prescott and back in a month.
I tell ya, it is challenging to live... 90 miles from nowhere.

Nothing or everything

So how can nothing be happening but everything is happening?
I am busy but not doing anything.
Nothing is going on but I am exhausted from everything happening?
I am confused....
Anyone surprised?

Odegaard's

Odegaard's is quilt and sewing store in Flagstaff.
Yes, I have finally found a compelling reason to go to Flag.
They have been in business since some time in the late 1800's.
I found out why.
I needed to buy more material for my new quilt
and backing for my first quilt.

Ouch. This stuff is not cheap.

Anyway, I loved the store and had a wonderful several hours here.
I will be back.....
Maybe to buy a Janome DC 2010.
Hopefully...

This is my shop

Living in an rv can give you many challenges.
If you are a tool freak like I am then it poses more than a normal amount.
Hubs and I love to make and build things.
In an rv they have to be smaller things and that is okay.
We have a lot of tools but no shop.
This is where we work.
And this is why we do not get as much done as we would like.

My bookstore

We do not have Half Price Books in Arizona.
We do not have Paperbacks Plus Books in Arizona.
We do have Bookmans.
At least we do in Flagstaff. Not in Prescott.
That has always seemed strange to me.

This winter we had a lot of snow.
About 145  inches or so.
Snow and flat roofs do not mix.
Last year Hastings lost their roof.
This year it was Bookmans.
They are in the same shopping strip.
You would have thought that the owners
would have figured it out after Hasings collapsed.
Oh, no.
I was more upset with Bookmans but Hubs was disturbed more by Hastings.
Re-Opening is due late this fall.
Until then we found a new place in Prescott. Yipee. .

My featherweight

Everything I have has to be small, lightweight and have a place to live.
When you have less than 400 sq ft of living space,
all space is at a premium.
I have carried my mothers sewing machine with us
for all 6 years we have been fulltime.
She actually gave me the machine about 20 years ago,
and I am so glad she did.
This is about the only machine that I have ever sewn on.
It is nothing fancy.
There are no special stitches.
It does not even do a zig zag stitch.
But this is my baby and I love her.
She plugs along with stitch after stitch.
All of them straight as an arrow.
She is perfect for piecing quilts but not so much for anything else.
I am looking at new machines that do more.
But I will never give up my Featherweight.

Benefits

There are benefits of living 90 miles from nowhere.
God is truly amazing.

Don't Do This

Do I really need words to go with this?
 Maybe just a warning.
Do NOT put your Jr. Mints on the computer modem.
It produces heat.
Sigh.....

There is something wrong

There is something wrong with snow in April and May.
We had several snows in April.
Not much snow each time, just .5 to 1 inch.
But it is cold and my heater is still running.
My heater turned on September 29, 2009 and it is now May

That is about 3 years worth of heat bills if I add correctly.
Sigh......

It is done

I have finished my first quilt top.
For the most part I am pleased.
I struggled with perfectly matching my corners.
And squaring my blocks.
But other than that I think I am pleased with it.
I now have to take it to a long arm quilter so it can be quilted.
$140 from now it will be done..... Mostly. lol
Binding will await its return. Ugh.
I learned something about myself while doing this.
Once the top is done.... I am done.
I don't want to do the back.
I don't want to send it off to be completed.
I don't want to bind it.
I am done.
And ready to move on to the next one.
