I am failing miserably

on the blog front. Somehow I have not posted since Oct 27th.
 Gracious. That is too long.

I have lots of excuses.
And several weekends in the Valley to show for it.
I also have this.

I have learned to paper piece.

I think I like it.

Quilt Show

A couple of weeks ago our summer bid ended.
That is when the season changes around here, the driving schedules change
and some of the drivers leave for the season.

Since we were going to lose 3 of our quilters this fall we decided we needed to
have a quilt show and brag about all that we have learned this year.
10 women and 5 months worth of effort.
Once we had all the quilts up we were amazed at what we had accomplished.

The first 3 photos are of my quilts.
You have seen them already so feel free to scroll by quickly.

We had the show at the Rec Center where
we sew each Sunday.
This was one of Viv's quilts.
It is her "Jessica" pattern,
The "Jessica" on the left belongs to Jackie
and the "Log Cabin" on the right was done by Margie.
This is a close up of the quilting that was done by our
Long Arm lady, Sandy.
This was Marie's "Love Knot"
She did a lovely job.
Jackie is the only one of us that had any experience before
we started in April
This is one of her quilts.
This beauty belongs to Donna.
She is the wife of a new driver and came to the group late.
This is a round robin quilt from her group on the
east coast.
It was completely hand quilted.
Another one by Jackie.
This is a special quilt.
It was made by Gary.
He decided that he could make a quilt if his wife could.
It is huge.
Another by Jackie.
One more "Jessica" by Jackie.
This was Viv's first quilt.
All of her quilts were King size.
Gary's wife, Joann made this.
It too, is huge.
Viv made 2 "Love Knot" quilts.
One was purple and one blue.
The blue can be seen on the very first photo.
Judy made this for her grand son.
A beauty by Jackie.
This was Judy's first quilt.
It is a 70x70 lap quilt.
Gerry made 2 quilts.
This small wall hanging...
And this lovely flannel beauty.
She will be warm this winter.
One more by Jackie.
Here we are enjoying ourselves and showing off.
Gerry and Donna.
Some placemats that Donna was working on.
An overview of the room.
We have had such a good time learning a new skill.
Having the quilt show was so amazing to us.
We did not really realize that we had produced quite so much.

A Quilt

I must be tired, I cannot even come up with a good name for this post.
Maybe they should all just be numbered.
That would be easy.

Before I left for Colorado, I went on a quilt shop hop and got a pattern and a bunch of
batik charm squares.
I was able to piece the front before I left and I was almost through with the back.
I had great intentions of finishing and quilting this baby quilt while I was gone.
It did not happen.
Not even close.

So, this last Sunday at quilt class, I was able to put this together and get it quilted.
I had to sandwich the batting together and do a pillow case turn to get it done.
I thought the back was bigger when I made it but it was not. It was about a quarter of
an inch smaller than the front.
It's okay. I got to learn a new way of sandwiching a quilt.
And it worked. :-)

After it was turned the correct way, I hand sewed the edge closed and then quilted it.
This is for a friends grandbaby and I wanted it a little modern and funky on the sewing.
There is a wonky circle in each of the squares,
a small circle in each intersection,
and the edge has a squiggle and then a 1/4 inch around the edge.
I was very pleased with the fun quilting and hope that my friend likes it.
I am still amazed at how much I am loving all this sewing.

Blog Hop Day 2

This is why I can do stuff like this.
Yes, I live in a 40 ft rv all the time.
But this is Tex. My toy.
I would say "our" toy but hubs does not get to enjoy him as much as me.

Tex is good for day trips to town to bring ice cream back, and weekends
to town to go to church. He is even better for August trips to Colorado
with my daughter. :-)

So the second day of the blog hop I had to start here.
The most important stop of the day.

Prescott, Az is where I normally do my quilt shopping so I was
very familiar with the shops.
Inexpensive Warm and Natural is available here.
Cloth Plus is a strange little store. More warehouse than "store"
but they have a wonderful selection of goods.
They just got in a bunch of Christmas flannel that I need to buy.
Soon...

Across the highway is Quilt and Sew Connection.
 I love this store.
Wonderful selection, great employees.
I plan to take a tree skirt class with them this fall.
I am excited.
240 miles so far.

My last stop was a given.
There is no way to go to town without stopping here for something.
Yeah, Wally World.
I needed some plastic drawers to put in my closet to hold
all my fat quarters. :-)

I finally made it home with a total of 375.1 miles on the odometer.
I don't regret going but I am not sure if I would do it again.
At least not without a friend along.

Blog Hop

I feel like I am running a week behind.
Wait, I am a week behind.
Story of my life. lol

Last Friday and Saturday I decided to abandon the family and hit the road.
I did the Northern Arizona Beat the Heat Shop Hop.
7 quilt shops.... 375 miles....2 days... no hubby...no daughter.
Fun, Fun, Fun.

I left the Canyon with "0" miles on the odometer.
First stop... Williams, Az.
The closest store to me. 59.6 miles.
They had the grand prize on hand to see as well as their own prize.
I bought a pattern for a pin cushion and got the first set
of 6 batik charm squares.
Each store was giving the charm squares and one store also
had a pattern for a quilt to make.

Next stop... Lunch. lol

I then headed to Flagstaff and realized that it really was the
middle of the monsoon. It was a pretty wicked storm.
Finally arrived at Odegaards. I really like this store.
106.6 miles and counting.
Next stop is Sedona by way of the Oak Creek Canyon.
More rain on the way down. Ugh..
Driving Oak Creek can be tricky any time. In rain it is not my favorite pastime.
I finally arrived at Sedona...143 miles so far.
The Quilters store is a very nice quilt store.
They also have a Gallery attached that was not open... sigh..
I was able to pick up some fun stuff... and more batik squares.
They have a pretty nice view also.
Next stop was in Cottonwood. Quilters Quarters.
Nice selection and nicer ladies.
Time to pick up the pattern for the quilt.
151.5 miles and counting.
From there I headed to Prescott where I made
a 5pm stop at A Quilters Dream. The lady was very glad
that I just wanted my passport stamped. :-)
After that I headed to Hobby Lobby
to pick up some Kona Solids.

End of day one.....
215.4 miles

More tomorrow....
